Project TULASI: A Landmark Initiative in Rural Healthcare
Overview
Project TULASI was a pioneering pilot program initiated by the Society for Biomedical Technology (SBMT). The mission was clear: to bring life-saving cervical cancer screening to rural and tribal populations who often lack access to specialized medical care.
Our Mission: Doorstep Diagnostics
The core philosophy of Project TULASI was to meet women where they are. Rather than requiring travel to distant hospitals, specialized medical camps were conducted at the doorstep of the community, allowing women to be examined in their own familiar environment.
Strategic Regional Focus
The project successfully identified and targeted two key districts in Andhra Pradesh through a collaborative network of medical excellence:
West Godavari District: Healthcare delivery was spearheaded by the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical Trust (MGMMT) in Bhimavaram. Ranga Reddy District: Operations were managed by the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad, in partnership with Princess Esra Hospital (OHRC). Princess Esra Hospital (OHRC)..
This initiative was driven by the Director of DEBEL, serving as the Chief Executive of the Society for Biomedical Technology. Under this leadership, the project served as a vital bridge between advanced biomedical technology and rural public health.
